BRONX RIVER VIEW 2010

Whitlock Station, Pelham Line, New York, New York, USA.

Five panels, 7’ H x 4’ W x 18” D each

Stainless Steel

The natural and urban worlds intersect through Bronx River View. The five-piece public sculpture was inspired by the natural light, public space, smooth sculptural lines and hints of nature along the adjacent Bronx River and the newly completed Concrete Plant Park. The New York Municipal Art Society awarded the work of art an Honorable Mention at the 2011 MASterworks Awards. Bronx River View’s curvilinear steel shapes serve as inviting seating areas, which frame views of the outside environment. Because the seats face each other, they encourage personal interaction with fellow passengers. These sculptural windows to the outside were additionally designed to allow light and air to flow onto the platform.

Commissioned by Metropolitan Transportation Authority Arts for Transit Permanent Art program, New York, NY.
